CONCEPT

Checkmate reverses the concept of functionally defined and daily-actions-articulated space into an adjustable and dynamic space that develops just from the needs of its inhabitants. An open space, the chessboard, that begins to take shape only after the first move; gradually converted in a play of solids and voids alternating in variations that reveal the contents and the aim. The tripartition of the perimeter structure, storage and "field of action" or chessboard, is the design key to reach the goal, to whom it is added the innovativeness of the construction system composed of the perforated foundations, alo positioning matrix, and mof the specialized "vertical bricks" with empty core. The free space in the foundations is divided into two containers: one for the accumulation of the rainwater piped by the hole in the vertical bricks, characterized by treatments tanks, electric pump, heating boiler; the other one including batteries, inverter and generator linked to the photovoltaic system (thought as a film on the external surfaces of the bricks). The lightweight furnishing elements (pieces of the chessboard) are meant to be inserted in the positioning matrix to shape the different configurations and to connect to the electricity and water. Some of them are small green lungs for the air purification and make the place comfortable and enjoyable; moreover, the empty core of the bricks lets to host a vertical vegetable garden, thought for the inhabitants sustenance with food Km0.
